Welcome! You’re a Salon Fan Now

SUNDAY, MARCH 4, 6:00 PM

The theme of the next Salon will be “Oh my God” moments in music. This Salon’s performers will choose music that is, in some way, a touchstone. From whatever era, from whichever culture, country, composer or style, they’ll share with us how the music came into their consciousness —and how it came to have meaning in their lives.

Luciana Gallo – Argentinean cellist Dr. Luciana Gallo is an avid performer and teacher based in the Phoenix metro area. Her international career has taken her to perform in Argentina, Canada, Brazil and Switzerland. She is a member of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and the Arizona Contemporary Music Ensemble. She will perform Gaspar Cassado’s Suite for Cello Solo in D Minor.

Hannah Goldstick – Our youngest performer returns for a solo presentation. Hannah performed as a first violinist with the P4 Quartet in our second Salon in 2014 when she was 14. As a high school senior, she is now auditioning for the top musical schools in the country, e.g. Curtis, New England, Julliard. A member of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony for 6 years, she has been the concertmaster of the Youth Symphony of the Southwest since 2015. Hannah will play one of the most beautiful and challenging pieces of the violin repertoire, The Chaconne, by Bach.

Desert City Jazz was formed in 2015 and is comprised of many of the best LGBT and Ally jazz musicians in the Phoenix area. Under the direction of Michael Collier, the band has rapidly developed a devoted following and established itself as one of the most exciting and adventurous jazz big bands in Phoenix. Since the full 16-piece big band would be too large for the intimate nature of the Salon concert, the band is represented by a six-person subset called the Desert City Jazz Little Band. The band will present “Jazz Through the Decades,” a selection of classic jazz tunes that represent the most significant artists and styles of each decade from the 1930s through the 1960s.

Brielle Amrein and Drake Sherman – Brielle Amrein is currently a senior in the Musical Theatre program at ASU. She is studying under Carole Fitzpatrick. Brielle has performed all around the valley for a number of years; she started performing as a preschooler. A few of her favorite past roles include “Anita” in West Side Story, “Sandy” in Grease, the title role in Cinderella, and, of course, the array of performances as “Maria” alongside Drake as her beloved “Tony”. Drake Sherman is a senior vocal performance major at ASU, where he will be graduating in May. He has been seen in many productions throughout the valley, including West Side Story as Tony, Drowsy Chaperone as Robert Martin, A New Brain as Gordon Schwinn, and many more. He is beyond excited to be sharing the stage again with his favorite partner in crime, Brielle. They will perform Tonight from West Side Story, Maria from West Side Story, Somewhere from West Side Story, and Suddenly Seymour from Little Shop of Horrors.
